Q - What do you think is the most important attribute of a winning dart player? A - Wow, thats a tough question there are so many aspects involved. If I had to pick one Id have to say confidence. No matter your skill level if your confidence is lacking your in trouble.
Q - You mention confidence, what are some ways for aspiring dart players to improve in this area? A - I have always thought of confidence in terms of inward thinking and belief in one's self. In my opinion, the best starting point is to be honest with yourself about your personal strengths and weaknesses. Next comes acceptance and improvement, it all flows from there. Q - You have often been quoted as saying your martial arts experience has helped your dart game, can you elaborate on that? A - Well, martial arts teaches dicipline, focus, respect, and conflict resolution strategies. All of these skills are important to a competitive dart player. For me its always been about what is going on mentally rather then physically throwing an accurate dart. Martial arts helped me develop an effective approach to creating "the zone", something that has been a huge factor in my success. Q - You mention "the zone", what do you mean by that? A - The zone is a mental state of being. There have been many articles published on this topic. In the simplest terms, it is turning off your concious mind and operating solely from the subconsious. Like martial arts in darts if your thinking your in trouble. In martial arts we call this "mushin no shin", or mind of no mind. |
