Advanced Cricket - Flanked!

Flanked is a powerful technique that uses acquisition of territory to overwhelm the opponent. It is especially effective against players who rely heavily on points. The goal is to leave your opponent on one number trying to get points while you close the rest of the board. This tactic can be very demoralizing tho the opponent when you finally close their score number.

Basically you will leave a number for them to score on as much as they can. Keep the points close but dont worry if you fall behind a little. Just keep closing out numbers and scoring while ignoring their "toy".

A typical flanked game would be as follows.

New Game I win the
diddle and start.
I start the game with
S20, S20, and T20.
He responds with
S19, S19, and S19.
I ignore the 19 pie
and score five 18s.
He attempts to regain
the point lead but only
gets 57 points
I again ignore the 19s
and score five 17s.

He responds back with four 19's to take the score lead and a dart at the T20 to close one of my threats, but only gets a S20.

Here is where the strategy gets a bit sticky. On my next turn I could decide to stay the course and score five 16's. Or I may opt to bullrush the 20's and bury him under some points. It really depends on my read of the opponent.

Personally I like scoring on the 20's and five 16's is not enough to keep the 20 out of jeapardy of being closed. So I would throw for points here. Remember to protect the high ground.

Right now I have complete control of the game and I am in a position to dictate his targets. His choices are very limited and is really in a bad position. I control all the key elements of the game save for points. But my territory, position, and control of the high ground more then make up for a small point lead he may have.
