St Pat's Dart Tournament Mar 16-18 2007 I soon find out its Scott's birthday and he plays like a madman through the whole event. We cruise to the finals and waiting to meet us is the very formidable team of Johnny K, Ray Carver, and Brenda Roush. Wollaston's steady stream of 140's and 180's is relentless and my finish from 110 wraps up the match 2 straight. Great start to the weekend and Im especially please considering Scott and I had never partnered before. Next on tap is the Men's Doubles 501. And after winning a tough match early against Alan Mathews I learn Alan played no small part in my setup for the weekend. Isnt that the way it always goes? Set someone up and they take you out. Scott and I have a nice run into the semi-finals but our doubles went astray and Bill Hockenbury and Tom White hit the mark sending us to an earlier exit then we would have liked. All and all though Im please with our performance and feel comfortable which is always paramount. The singles 501 is next and I cruise through to the money rounds pretty comfortably. I hear the call of Danny Lauby and I know its going to be a tough match. I go to the board and toss some practice darts but Dan is no where in sight. So I decide to take a look for him and when I find him he informs me Im not playing him but rather his son! Let me tell you this kid is for real, and played a great match against me. Luckily for me this time age and experience prevailed and I move into the quarter-finals. In the round of eight I come up against another youth player, this time its TJ Jacques. And again I must dodge a barrage of bullets to get into the next round. TJ is an excellent player and at only 16years old hes definately one to watch. My semi-final match was another case of missed opportunities. My opponent was Jay Browning who I had never met but he definately took advantage when I left the door open and sent me packing with a top4 finish. This was really the first dissapointing loss of the weekend and I knew I had a better game in me then I played. But there is a lot of darts to be played so onward and upward as they say. |
