Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4

World Series of Darts Qualifier Mar 5th 2006 continued

My third round was the round of 32 and my opponent was Lane Helgeson. Now Lane is a great dart player making past finals of major tournament singles including the North American Open. We split the first two legs but my scoring kicked in at the same time Lane seemed to fall off pace a bit and I ran out the next three games in quick fashion. And I am through to the 4th round on a 4-1 scoreline.

The fourth round I drew Randy VanDeursen a top soft-tip player from the midwest. Randy got the jump on me running out the first two legs with remarkable scoring. The third was my start and I kicked with a 140. Randy replied with his own 140, to which I responded with a meager 45. Randy again capitalize with another 140. At this point, I was in huge danger of losing control of the match and going down 0-3 in legs. I composed and responded with 140, 140, and a double 18 for a 13 dart leg and new life. I started the 4th leg with a maximum and went on to run off the next 3 legs. So now I am through to the 5th round with a 4-2 scoreline.

The quarter-finals are announced and the ESPN cameras are swarming. Its coming down to the wire and my opponent is another soft-tip player from Nebraska, Mike Brewer. I was simply on auto-pilot at this points and cruised past with a 4-0 scoreline and advanced to the semi-finals.

In the semis I drew Dean Blake from Minnesota. The crowd was growing and with the cameras recording our every move I didn't leave much opening for Dean. I controlled the match from the start and gained a finals berth with a 4-1 scoreline.
