Windy City Open Sept15th - 17th 2006

Before we get into the tournament recap here is a little riddle for you. What event involves darts, drinking, 4 policemen, 5 firefighters, an elevator shaft, and the Korean spiderman? Are you stumped? Well, read on the answer is coming shortly.

Once again its time for one of my favorite events and probably the one tournament I have attended the most in history. Thats right this year's 30th Windy City Open in Chicago. My cohorts for the weekend are Sue Cherry, Keith "Shadow" Schmidt, and Keith's new squeeze a very skinny lady named Kim.

Recieving the honor of being invited to the Pro-Am event meant I had to be at the venue a little earlier then usual. So after a quick and uneventful drive we check into the hotel around 2pm local time. Just enough time to relax hang the dartboard and catch maybe a little nap before the weekend kicks into gear.

Upon inspecting the dartboard I am disturbed to find that the screw on the back has been knocked off leaving no way to hang the board. This situation was quickly solved with the use of a screw from the wall a pocket knife and a pair of scissors. Fear my Mcgyver dart board hanging skills!

After a quick catnap, fast shower and a bit of warmup darts its time to head down to the pro-am dinner. Quite the field was assembled including several top PDC pros. With the likes of Steve Brown, John Part, Terry and Andy Jenkins, Denis Ovens, and Roland Scholten in town it looked like a very challenging weekend ahead.

During the dinner I joke with my friend and local Windy City hotshot Kurt Hartmann about drawing him and winning the whole event. Sure enough as I pull the slip that designates my team its Kurt and company! Fear my Nostradomus like psychic powers!
