Shoot the Rapids Feb 17-19 2006 continued Saturday's final event is the mixed doubles. And I have my all-time favorite partner at my side, my mother. For those that may not know my mom was a powerhouse player in the late eighties early nineties, winning quite a few national tournaments in her own right. But a stroke some years back halted her competitive days and while fully recovered the dart game has yet to be fully ressurected. We make the money rounds but bow out in the quarter-finals. Oh well, I have to say it was great playing with her again even if it fell short. Sunday kicks off with the Men's 501 doubles. Steve and I are looking for a little redemption. The opportunity comes in the 3rd round as we face the team that beat us in the cricket. We shoot a 10dart first leg and that sets the tone. We wont be beaten on this day. We cruise through the rest of the event and wrap up first place in dominating fashion. The last event of the weekend is the Men's Singles cricket. I am playing well and fly through to the quarter-finals where I meet up with Mr. 130out himself Ron Johnson. With the theme of redemption still playing in my head I advance through a very tough match. And after outlasting Chris Ruby in the semi-final I once again find myself in the singles final. And once again Dr. Evil himself Steve Brown is there to greet me. Steve crushes me in straight legs to leave me again wanting with another runner-up singles finish. I hate that Steve Brown!! Okay okay maybe I dont really hate Steve. Matter of fact hes one of my favorite guys. I just like him alot better when he stays in St. Louis. Great playing Steve! All and all just a really great weekend. If you ever get the chance to come to a Grand Rapids tournament I guarentee you wont be dissapointed. Great people, great food, and the good times roll. Next up Youngstown here I come!! Watch out! |
