Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

Shoot the Rapids Feb 17-19 2006

Okay, this event is in my hometown, Grand Rapids, Michigan. My doubles partner for the weekend is Steve Hertzfeld from just down the pike in Jackson, Mi. And even more exciting my mother has decided to dust off the ole tungsten and play the mixed doubles with me as well. The stage is set for a great weekend!

This tournament is held at a local dart bar, Westwood at the Crossing. Its a huge venue with 35 permanent wall mounted boards. Its a very well run event thanks to the many volunteers from my local dart league the GRDL.

Friday night it is exciting to see such a great turnout. And after the usual meet and greet the festivities kick off with the weakest link singles. For those that dont know, the weakest link singles is a winner take all event. Everyone in the bar throws 3 dart with the lowest score being eliminated. This continues until only one person is left. 53 entries toe the line and I come out on top for a nice $265.00 start to my weekend.

Next up is the draw doubles. As the first round calls come out I draw Sharon Riojas as my partner. Walking to my first round Ed "Bam Bam" Debenke grabs my arm to inform me of Sharon's dart expertise. He wasn't wrong we have a tough first match but sail through on dart counts of 14 and 17. Not bad for a mixed draw team. Not bad at all.
