Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

Easy Money Open Mar 10-122006 continued

A few warm-up darts and the weekend was underway. Unfortunately I get upended early and the Pro Singles comes to a screaching halt. The Blind Draw next event came with similiar results ending a long day of travel. The weekend was still early and already I could feel the bullseye on my back from winning the WSOD qualifier just a week earlier. Some truly impressive darts were thrown against me.

A good nights sleep and its time to get Saturday's event started on the right foot. Men's Singles cricket is the first event and I feel confident about my chances. A few tough matches early but I coast into the semi-finals. This is where I first meet Danny Baggish. If you haven't met Danny let me tell you this young guy from Florida can shoot some darts, along with being a helluva nice kid. Anyway, third leg I opt to close the bulls for the match and come up short hitting only 2 of the 3 required. Danny calmly addresses the line and strokes DB, DB, T18 for the match and ending my event one round short. He goes on to win a great final against Tony Payne and wrap up the singles title.

Next on tap is the Men's Doubles Cricket. With my trusty partner Steve at my side I quickly forget about my miss-step in the singles. Again we fly through to the semi-finals this time meeting Tom "Chopper" Williams and Scott Buckley. Now Chopper and Scott are both great players but an even more impressive doubles team. Steve and I will have our work cut out for us. Its a tight match but in the end Chopper goes ballistic hitting 5 perfect shots in the match to relegate me to my second consecutive top 4 finish of the weekend.

The next event is Mixed Triples, Steve and I are joined by Sue Cherry. We had only played one event as a team in the past but had won first at last years Top Dawg Open in Cleveland. So I was feeling confident about breaking the semi-final barrier. It was a goal accomplished but unfortunately we wound up one spot short finishing in second place. The team of Brad Wethington, Danny Baggish, and Keri Stevenson proved too strong to overcome in a tightly contested match.
