Windy City Darters Challenge Mar 4th 2006 continued The morning starts off with the usual meet and greet along with photos off all the teams. Teams are assigned by division with one person from each of the four division making up a team. So you will have one masters player, one tungsten player, one nickel player, and one brass player on each team. There are roughly a dozen 4 person units on each side and you play two matches each. A match consists of 4singles, 2 doubles, and one team game. Overall points are totaled between all matches. I represent the masters division for Grand Rapids and my first opponent is Ed "Bam Bam" Debenke from Chicago. Its early morning but I warm- up into the match and squeek out a victory. One for the good guys! My teams fairs well and we end up coming out on top in our first match. The second match my masters advesary is Mr. Ron Johnson. You might remember Ron bounced me from the 501 singles finals a few weeks earlier in Grand Rapids. Another close match and this time Ron comes out on top. Despite coming back and winning the doubles match my team comes up short. This seems to be a trend for Grand Rapids as the Windy City has taken a substantial lead after the team competition with a strong second round. |
